FRUITGROWERS’ ASSOCIATION■ meeting ’ (From Our Own Correspondent.} [ The monthly meeting of the Riwaka Fruitgrowers’ Association was well attended, when Mr G. Stratford, orchard inspector, read a most- interesting and informative paper oil “Fungoid diseases of fruit trees and their remedy" (published elsewhere in this Issue). The chair was occupied by the president (Mr Harry Everett). On account of Indisposition, the secretary (Mt 8. Gilbert), was unable to attend atlcl Mr J. S. Scott was elected to take bis place. Accounts passed for payment amounted to £l2 19s Bd. Correspondence Was received from the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation, Ltd., expressing gratification lit the Association again taking up experimental work this season. The Nelson Provincial FrUitgroVvers’ Council, intimating that Mr Attwood, managing director of the Federation, would give an address, “Betterment of Home nod South American markets;’’ to the Riwaka growers on Monday evetlitlg. The chairman commented , oil the spraying experiments carried out in Riwaka last season, and the guarantee from the. Federation to pay it SUhl not exceeding £IOO towards the same. He stated that they had oil hand all account for about £BO, and it was resolved to forward this to the Federation for settlement. Mr Scott proposed that the results of the experiments be published, with the consent of the Federation and life Department of Agriculture. This WHS seconded by Mr W. Bowling. Mr Stratford informed the meeting that the experimental programme this season would not be so extensive As last year. He mentioned that 19 pear trees'in Mr Anderson’s orchard, known to have been infected with poav midge, were treated with vistolenc on Monday. "It was intended to spray other orchards so infected, but since only one gallon of this material had been forwarded, it was decided to confine operations to the one orchard. The pear trees will receive in all four sprayings. It is interesting to note that on examination this season oidy one midge was discovered on the trees in question.”
