N. S. WALES WHEAT CROP
GLOOMY PROSPECTS (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, Oct. 11. Representatives qf the voluntary wheat pool conferred with the Minister o) Agriculture on the basis of a guarantee to be given by the pool in con- ' nection with the rent for silos in view of the danger of a partial failure of the crop. The representatives objected to the condition imposed by the State that they : should guarantee _ a rent 'of l£d per bushel on eight million bushels without respect to the amount of wheat actually placed in the silos, and pointed out that the crop possibly would not amount to more than thirteen piillion bushels, in which case the pool would have to pay rent on about sixty per cent, of the'total crop, while there was not a prospect of anything like that proportion being put in the silos. They submitted ‘ alternative proposals which will be submitted to the Cabinet. Mr Bruxner, leader of the Progressive Partv. stated that the wheat crop would he a complete failure over most of the northwest. Already farmers were advertising offering wheat crops to be eaten off by stock. Even if rain came on now it would be too late.
