The Onakaka Iron and Steel Coinpair in prospecting their coal area at Golden Bay, have already proved the existence of at least 50 years supply of excellent cooking coal, which can be landed at their furnace at a low cost. The supply will be gufficient to enable the company also to supply the IJTew Zealand foundries with metallurgical coke at a price much below that now being imported from Australia. The discovery of such excellent coking coal, so close to the smelting plant, will have a- very. big bearing in the future developments of this district..
