ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of ,the Nelson Chess Ctafc was held oh Tuesday last, when some very % interesting ■business was got through. - V . , The election pf officers resulted M follows:—President, Mr, A. E. Qsm* vrell ; "vice-presijJenta,,' IJgWwrs J. .L. Harris, R. C. Ellis • secretary and treas., Mr. C- N. Wilkinson; general committee,: Messrs Severno, Dodds, J. U. Kemp, G, T, Kemp, and A. Clausen,Through, the kindness, of; Mr. J. D. Kemp, a gold medal is being, offered this season to the .player scoring the greatest percentage of wins during the season. The idea underlying; this gilt ip that it will make every game an important and serious one, and thus, encourage the playing of good, sound chess. ■ , , , : Mr. A. E, Cresswoll also promised to present the club with a board and men, and both these gifts were (received m th great pleasure. It has been decided to throw the membership of the club open to ladies as well as men, and it is hoped that any lady player, or intending player, will take advantage of this hew rule. The club will b c a strong on© tins year, having enrolled seveii or new members, and a comprehensive scries of telegraph matches and tournaments will b© undertaken.
