GASWORKERS’ SECRET BALLOT
EXTREME MEASURES * FAVOURED (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. The secret ballot of the Gas Company employees favoured the adoption of “extreme measures” to enforce their demands for increased Wages by 177 to 79. The secretary qf the Union has advised the Gas Company of the result of the ballot and. has asked, in view of the Union's decision, if it’will give immediate reconsideration to tjie Unions’ demands. WELLINGTON, This Day. With reference to a telegram from Auckland regarding the gas dispute, Mr F. W. Rowley, Secretary to the Labour Department, stated to-day in an interview, that the union in question had enterd into an agreement with the Gas Company under the Labour Disputes Investigation Act,, which agreement had currency until June, 1921. H ©had telegraphed 'to the union pointing out this fact and the provisions under the Act > and also under the public utilities clauses of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1908, for penalties for striking, and advising careful consideration before taking action.
