VISIT OF GENERAL BIROWOOD
Correspondence was read at the City Council last night showing that General Birdwood would arrive in . Nelson by special car from the West Coast in the evening qf the 24th June, and would leave* early next morning for Blenheim. Under these circumstances, it would be impossible for General Birdwood to visit the Colleges, as suggested, or to visit the Soldiers 7 Club for morning tea on the 25th. It was further stated that General Birdwood would be pleased to attend, any civic function on the evening of his arrival in Nelson.
A sub-comittee, consisting of Ors Harley, Stringer, Pettit, and the Mayor was appointed to make arrangements a civic reception; ' and rt was resolved to grant £2O towards expenses entailed in entertaining the distinguished visitor.
