STATUS TO' BE RAISED,
REFORMS FORESHADOWED

In presenting the . Indian Budget in the House of Commons, the Hon, E. S. Montagu foreshadowed a Reform Bill ■in June. He pointed out that India was aitj original member of the League of -Nations, and such membership was only justifiable if India was raised to the position of the sister* nations of the Empire, and was wholly inconsistent with India’s present subordination. Mr Montagu added: “I say to our colDeaguesi representing _ the great Horn'nions that this’ position of India’s equality in the League is wholly inconsistent* \vith the treatment, of India’s c’tizem in the British Dominions, which puts them lower than the citizens of other parts of our empire.
