ROBBERY FROM A POST OFFICE

A robbery .took plhce at Milton on , Wednesday night. ■ From what can be gathered, the postmaster, Mr McGuire, a very old -servant of, the' department, retied to bed at about 11 o’clock, ,-leayirig the office keys in the hip pocket of his trousers, which were bung in a wardrobe. Some time on , ,-fnorning- McGuire heard, a noise in Itl" bedroom, but, after listening for some tims,' and hearing nothing i7ior6 ? he cor! difded that the liaise had been caused by the 'springs of the bed in an adjoining room occupied by his daughter. At 7 o’clock a boy from the office informed Mr McGuire, that the office safe door was standing open. Investigation showed that all the notes in the- safe had been taken, amounting in all to over £SOO. It is understood that there were six £SO and several £lO notes. The office has a record of the number of ‘ the £SO notes, arid also of those of most of the £lO notes.
