INCREASED PAY

WELLINGTON, This Day,
[ The Hon. T. M. Wilford announced that Cabinet has approved of a further increase in the pay of constables and sergeants of Is 6d a day, while the scale of permanent increase for all other officers is now being prepared for submission to Cabinet. The Cabinet Committee which reported on Mr Wilford’ s recommendation, stated that it was necessary to increase the pay in order to maintain tne strength of the Force, which is now 800, against 1000 before the war. It was also necessary to grant increases, as the war bonus ceased on March 31st. House allowance to married sergeants is also increased from £27 7s 6d a year to 15s a week. All the increases take effect from Ist April.
