THE RED CROSS.
EULOGISTIC MESSAGE) FROM THE KING.
HIS MAJESTY'S PERSONAL COMMENDATION.
{United Press Association.)
WELOiNGTGN, .Oct. 16. The King has sent the following message through the Governor-Gen e ral:—
"On the occasion of 'Our Day,' 1918, T have much pleasure in congratulating the British ißed Cross Society and the Order of St. John on© the magnificent work which "they .in conjunction ■ have achieved during more than four years' warfare, and in expressing the confident hope that their efforts may continue to receive from my .people the financial support which they .require. "By personal observation in the United Kingdom and on the Western front, I. am convinced that the appeal of the Joint Committee for funds is more than justified by the manner in which they are carrying on their widespread and responsible labours in cooperation with the medical services of the forces in Flanders, Fi-ance, Italy, and Malta, in Palestine, Macedonia, and Egvpt, in .'Mesopotamia ajnd East Africa, and in Russia, Roumania, and Siberia. The joint secretaries have' relieved sufferings, healed the sick, nad saved valuable lives for the service of the Empire in war and peace.. They have also been able to give welcome assi?t:mce to our Allies, and. in making provision for the =ick and wounded! have not forgotten the prisoners of war, whose privations they have done much to alleviate. "It must be remembered that peace when declared .will not bring a cassation of the work of the hospitals, and, in-' deed, the demand on the resources of the Red Cross must inevitably continue for some time after hostilities have ended. . "Impressed! as'l am by the -vast obligations which must still fall, on the joint societies, I. have much pleasure in contributing the sum of £10,000."
