SPANISH INFLUENZA.
THE iSOUTH AFRICAN EPIDEMIC. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association CAPETOWN, Oct. 15. There are evident signs of an abatement of influenza .here, but it is spreading rapidly in the country districts. Johannesburg reports no abatement. Kimberleys' death roll exceeds 30C0. The Government has decided to close all places of entertainment throughout the Union.
An official statement says that steamers arrived at Capetown on September 12th with 43 cases on board. The passengers were isolated, arid not till the first week i« October did Capetown develop the epidemic in its present proportions.
The statement adds that no cases are known a,nywhere of influenza so rapidly assuming such virulent characteristics.
