FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

LOYAL NELSON LODGE, M.U-, 1.0.0. F. The half-yearly summoned meeting of the Loyal Nelson Lodge, Manchester Unity, Independent Order of Oddfellows, was held last evening, when there was a fair attendance of members. The N.G., Bro. E. Batchelor. presided. The District Officers— G.M. Bro. A. Cross, D. G.M. Bro. A. G. Shrimpton-—paid ani official viisit to the Lodge, and received a hearty welcome. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows: N.G., Bro. O. E. Hammond; V.G.. Bro. J. Black; E.S., Bro. A. J. Pellew Bros. W. H. Prebble, A. G. Stewart, and F. O. Ohrystall were reelected members of the Hall Committee. It was reported that the sum of £143 9s had been paid in pick pay during the half-year, and that the nuances of the Lodge were in a satisfactory condition!. Two candidates for admission to membership were initiated by the Prov. G.M., assisted by the- N.G. and V.G. A vote of thanks was accorded the District officers, who suitably returned their thanks, Bro. iShrimpton giving the Lodge some valuable information.

A special summoned meeting of the Loyal Palmyra Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., [Was held in 'the (Schoolroom. Tadmor, lon Wednesday, June 26th. The meeting was called to elo< -t a permanent seeret tary in the place of Bro. G. W. Fawctt, who had been called up for military service. The District officers—Bro. A. Cross, G.M., Bro. A. G-. Stewart, D.G.M.. and Bro. A. G. Shrimpton;, Prov. C.S—attended, and. iii response to the invitation! of the Palmyra brethren,, tilled the Lodge offices for the evening The report disclosed the fact that .practically 50 per cent of the Lodge members had gone on afctive service, Bro. J. Hannen having paid f the supremo sacrifice. Two of the brethren had returned from the fron* wounded, and, in- accordance with the policy of the society, were entitled to sick pay from the date they became in capacitated for service, and the sum oi £33 lis 3d was passed to cover the claim of one. member. The particulars of the other claim« are to be procured from the Base Records Office and to he paid when presented. It was resolver' to place on the minutes' the Lodge's appreciation of the services of Bro. G. W. Fa'wirett as permanent secretary. Bro. L. M. Wiltshire wa» elected as a successor to Bro. Fawcett. A very heaity vote of -thanks was accorded the District .officers' for their presence at the meeting, and the officers in* replying to the vote dealt fully with the important business determined at the last B.M.C. At the conclusion of the meetjing a very pleasant social hour wasspent.
