WAKEFIELD BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Wakefield Bowling Club was held at the Odfel■aws' Kail on Saturday', June 29th. The president (Mr I. Tunnicliffe) was in the chair, and about 20 members were present. The annual report and balance sheet were r.ad and adoptfd. The _ financial condition was considered satisfactory, the club coming out free from debt on the year.

Tlie report staled, inter alia., that last season had b.en a most successful one. The local green now enjoys quite a Dominion reputation, which" reflectsgreat credit on the caretaker (M i Claydi n). Part of the. centre tournament games were, played at Wa.k'efield. The usual club tournament was held on February Ist, and was a most successful function, players from t'he Nelson and Maitai Clubs taking part. _ The club had entered, for the sub-district competition, scoring two wins against Motueka. The thanks of the club are again due to Mr W. H. Bullar.d for giving the excellent soil for top-dress-ing. Surplus ' proceeds from.'the tournament and afternoon teas were devoted to the Red Cross Fund, which had benefited -very substantially therefrom during the, year. The thanks of the club were due to those ladies who had assisted at the afternoon teas | during the year. The club competitions during the year had resulted as * -Hows :—Senior Championship Singles' A. "Wilkinson; Junior Championship Singles, G. Wilkeus; Kerr Buckles f'holders at end of season), McFarlane, Coleman, Billiard, Eban (s). The championship pairs contest was not completed. For the Dee Cup Maitai defeated W akefield ; 'Wakefield then Ihallengf-d and! won, but were mext de 1 fcated by Nelson, who, although dial lpnged several times, succeeded: in retaining 1 the cup. For the Wakefield Feathers several interesting games were played between Wakefield,. Nelson, and Maitai clubs, th last-named succeed L lng in retaining t'he trophy after a tie in the final game with Wakefield. Thei election of .was. noxt nro>= ceeded with, and resulted as follows: President, Mr A. Wilkinson : vicepresiderrts, Messrs 11. Tunnicliffe and W. Bullard; secretary and treasurer. Air Frank •-ofernan ; committ e, Messrs W. Bird, A. Baigent, and P. Gam'boni. The new president took his seat amidst applause, the retiring president .(Mr Ivo. Tunnicliffe) thanking members for th:ir courtesy during his term of office.

The president suggested, that a visit bo paid to Ta-'k-aka next season, perhaps playing Motueka en rout:. It was decided to institute a president's pair competition for next season.

Votes of thanks to the retiring officers and committee, the caretaker, tho ladies, the press and visiting clubs and play-op* were passed.

Alter the meeting a social to farewell I Mr H. .Hogg, who is entering camp, was held. After supper a few toasts were honoured, and a present of a. shaving set was linind'ed to the departing number. The president, in making the presentation, .'spoke of the serious crisis oi the Empire, saying that the present occasion only brought home the gravity- of th' time* to us all. Mr Hogs feelingly responded. AM present wished' him God speed and a safe return.
