NEW ZEALAND WOOL.

~ AND THE IMPERIAL GOVERN•MENT PURCHASE. AETER-WA.R 12-MONTHS' CLAUSE O'BJECTED TO. .' (United Press Association.) GISBORNE, July 6. The proposal that the Imperial Government should purchase wool for one year after the cessation of hostilities was objected to at a meeting of the Gisborne Wool-growers' Association this afternoon, when, on the motion of Mr W. <J. Sheratt, the meeting, after hearing the •report of Mr W. D. Lysnar, decided that the Imperial Government should commandeer the wool for three months only-after the close of the war, upon existing terms. The' meeting was of opinion that wool-growers, having satisfied all imperial requirements of the' Dominion, are entitled to resume ordinary marketing and control of their wool as Boon as possible, subject' to any legislation the Imperial or the Dominion Governments may impose in order to provide restrictions preventing wool reaching enemy-- or other' couuti-ies. -i Mr Lysnar contended that the proposal to commandeer the wool after the •war actually meant, in view of the tricky wording, that two clips would be . Eeilt. Home under these conditions, which really meant that speculative manufacturers would profit at the expense of the New Zealand wool-growers. It was not nnpatriotic for wool-growers when hostilities, ceased, to consider their own business interests, and by not-ac-ceding to the proposal the people at Home would not be penalised, but the huge profits made by manufacturers, if diverted, woxild benefit the Dominion. He said that the Hon. T>.Ji. "Guthrie had stated that he would forward the points against the proposal to Mr <Mass=ey and Sir Joseph Ward. When demobilisation took place there would not be enough wool in the world to provide for tha men who again went into mufti; and wool-growers, by adopting the one-year proposal, would fall into the h*nd« of the manufacturers, ( who would coin money at the growers expense. :'; '.
