Williams, "Returning Officer, Nelson Education Board, "Dear Jsir, —T, .Humphrey Oliver, hereby protest against your action in refusing to accept my nomination on the following grounds:—That my nomination paper was registered and posted at the Motueka Post Office at 10.55 a.m. on Wednesday, the 26th day of June, 1918. The mail for Nelson closed at 12 noon, arriving at .Nelson at. 3.50 p.m. (these times are official). The Chief Postmaster at Nelson is prepared to prove this mail was .sorted and !l notice of my registered letter placed in the Nelson Education Board's letter box before 5 p.m.. the advertised time for closing nominations I consider that von, as returning officer, should have caused your letter box to be cleared at 5 p.m. instead of 4.30 p.m., as you admit. The conditions having been fullv complied with on my part, I respectfully claim that my nomination is valid and in order. "' Yours respectfully,
