The returns at present are not available,...but it. *s believed that they are the biggest since the early days of the war. WAR LOAN BILL. MELBOURNE, May 17. In the House of Representatives, Mr Watt, in moving the second reading of the new War Loan Bill, tinder which it'is proved to raise 80,000,000, stated that there had already been raised in Australia £149,325,058 and raised in Britain £46,500.000. the total indebtedness being £195,825,058. The House of Representatives read the first time the new War Loan Bui, which, Mr Watt stated, would bo the last loan free of income tax to .be raised. The Government was preparing a basis for the new system for the duration of the war. LABOUR PARTY AND THE WAR. (Rec. 10.30 a.m.! MELBOURNE, This Day. Mr Tudor sent Mr Watt a letter stating that the Labour Party were desir ous of doing everything necessary for the proper conduct of the war, and ask. ing for an uncensored press, removal of the regulations limiting sport, and the removal of rules prejudicially affecting 1 the status of industrial organisation.
