Beforo Mr Justice Hosking to-day Micliael Roughan, Simon■'-McGrath and James Egan were charged with assaulting the Rev. Frederick fStockwell at, Feilding on .February 20th, doing him grievous bodily harm. Evidence was given that at the conclusion of a _Protestant 'Political Association meeting a crowd followed Mr Stockwell and other clergymen alomr the street, and eventually Mr Stockwell was violently assauted' and received •' juries from which he is still suffering. After the evidence for .the prosecution had been hear-i, the Jndge ordered •MeG-rath and Egan to be discharged, as there was no evidence to connect them with the actual 'assault. .■ In R<mghan's . < n*e the jury returned a : verdict of * guilty and ! sentence was *def erred. -- .;.:. , ■ , ~; :. _ :'-,-. •
