In. the Supreme Cotirt to-dav before Mr Justice Chapman and a common jury ,of twelve, Beath and Co., Ltd., drapers, of Ohristchurch. claimed £IOOO damages for alleged libel from Maurice Goldsborough, journalist, "Wellington; Frederick Jame§ Dawson, publisher, Wellington; and the John Bull Newspaper , Proprietary Company, Wellington, for publishing an article in "John Bull's Register" of July 16th last which it was claimed falsely and maliciously misrepresented facts as to the origin of Ihe plaintiff company's .capi-tal-arid the nationality of its shareholders. After an hour's retirement the jury returned with a verdict for one farthing damages. The question of costs was reserved.
