REDUCTION IN LEAKAGE ACCOUNT.,

The Gas Engineer .(Mr--A-. Neiiy- presented the following .report to the City Council last evening:—The figures now available show that th«.gas •unaccounted for during the period from March 31st to September 30th was L"VB per cent, of the total gas, mariufactured*, against .23 per cent, for the game period in 1915.. .The reduction in r - the (leakage account by 9;2 per cent, is entirely'duo to the. efficient system-of'dealing with' f the gas *ccount; adopted 'by the Cona* cil in (March of this year. . ; v ' \\' r ' By a careful comparison of the' ga»' consumption from month to month "'«»'■ shown by the gas ledger defective meter* to the number -of 320 have been replacied, many of them were passing gas iinl registered. ■■•■■■. '*" ■ ■•"-. '"":■ To cope with the demand for accurate meters it was ■ necessary to have 114 of the above meters repaired in Wellington at a total cost of £166 5s sd; ■ ' "', .
