PAINTERS' AWARD

WAR BONUS GRAFTED. The award of ttiie Arbitration Court in the Nelson Painters' dispute came to hand to-day. The'said war bonus may at any time daring:; the currency of the award be opntinued, either wholly or partially, or may ,be increased or terminated, as the Court on the' application of any party to the award, or of its own motion, may determine: Wages are to be paid weekly, ?>nH men working at distant country i places mav make special arrangements with employers for payment to their ' families or * otherwise on their written order. "Suburban -work" means; wbrkt performed, by a worker at a distance; of over a mile and a naif from-.the chief post office in the city or tbwri in which th e employer's place- of_.business is situated, and "country work means work beyond a distance of three: miles. ... ~.-'-,'"■ The Nelson City Council shall be bound by the award only in respect of wages, overtime and hours, and may pay fortnightly; it is exempted from all the. other provisions of the award. ' The award comes into force on. October 15th, IVJI7, and shall continue in force till 31st May, 1919. ; , In a - memorandum the Court states that the award is based for most part on the recommendations of the 'Conciliation Council, which the parties agreed -to accept. The only matters left to the Court for settlement -were the«, clauses relating to wages and'.the t term of-the award; ..'" -■. J
