SIX O'CLOCK CLOSING
(Dkitjbij Pxksis Association.! I) UN" ED IN. May 18. The Mayor lias received the following reply from Sir J. Allen regarding the six o'clock closing ol' hotels:-—"The Government has no power by War Regulation or otherwise to deal with six o'clock closing. An amendment, of the law would be necessary to ileal with the matter. The Government has no power to .submit the matter to a referendum without direction. Parliament will be called together at. the usual time next, month. It is considered necessary that the. Prime Minister and Sir .Joseph Ward should be present in Cabinet when the early closing question is discussed. The matter will be brought before the Prime Minister and Sir Joseph Wan! immediate! v on their return."
