The .suggestion made in Auckland that the New Zealand (Government should simplify the shipping problem by arranging 011 certain conditions with the Imperial authorities to send produce to the West Coast of North America, receives scant support from Wellington business men. -

Messrs Burbidge and Son report as follows on the Wellington fruit and produce market : There is a slight improvement- in the market for apples, while pears are still in very good demand. Eggs keep scarce and realise high prices. Potatoes are weaker. Poultry and pork sell readily. Prices :—.Apples : Cox 8s to 9s fid. Jonathan 5s to 6s 6d. Delicious 5s t)d to 7s. Stunner 5s 6d to 7s 6d, Monroe's 3s 9cl to 4s 6d, Epps' 3s to 3s 6d. Pears : Winter Cole 8s to 9s 6d. Vicars 5s to 6s, P. Barry 5s 6d to 7s 6d, all at per bushel Eggs 2s 8d to 2s 9d per doz. Potatoes: 6s 9d per cut. Poultry: liens 4s 6d to 5s 6d per pair, roosters 5s 6d to 7s. Messrs Cridiths and Co.. Ltd. (incorporating Braid and Wallace) report as follows on the Wellington fruit and produce market : With only moderate shipments of apples and pears coming to hand. we anticipate an early advance in values. Since the Island steamer is due this week, we advise moderate shipments, providing the fruit will hold, otherwise it should be ipiitted at the earliest opportunity. To-day's values are as follows :—Apples : Cool-stored Cox 8s to 9s for choice, Jonathan choice 6s 6d to 7s 6d. others 4s to 5s 6d. King l>avid good 3s 9d to 4s 3d, Rhymer 3s 6d to 4s. Delicious (we expect, an early advance for these) if really good and choice 7s to Bs. others 4s to 5s 6d. Sturmer 6s. to 7s fid. others 3s 6d to 4s 6d, choice sound Cleopatra.
