The 'Ambassador, interviewed by the New York Times said- that the distress in Austria was terrible, but they must not assume that the country was at the end of its resources. The masses know nothing of the events in the outer world. They are fed with newspaper lies about the strength of the Central Powers, while the Allies are described as being on the verge of collapse. -He was, surprised that Switzerland, .although not participating, had spent a billion francs on army mobilisation.
