RED CROSS APPLE DAY
APPEAL TO FRUITGROWERS.
The following circular, signed by Messrs Hit G. Hill and W. B; Griffin, the respective managers, has been sent out to the shareholders of. the Nelson District Fruitpackers, Ltd., and"the.Nelson Co-operative Fruit T30., I*td.:-~ : \.
We have received the following letter from the hon. secretary of the Nelson Re<j Cross ISociety:—"ln view of the coming offensive and the unfortunate,list of casualties we must expect, we purposfe making a. special effort to raise mojiey for the Red 'Cross Fund. To this end, we would solicit the help of yourself, company and shareholders in what we propose to call an 'Apple Day.' If your shareholders will give one or two cases of fruit and you will collect same •at your various packing sheds, we will arrange to find the labour .necessary to' pack the fruit into little 'boxes that we intend to sell to_ the public. The , need is so great that we feel we can look for your assistance on the above ,lines." The appeal is so Urgent that we feel all growers will respond) by giving at least one case of apples each. .Those supplying the above companies can, give us authority to take their gift from ths fruit sent into the packing shed, whi\e others can leave their donations at the respective packing sheds, when they- will be forwaTded to the Red 'Cross Society free of charge". . "
