CITY SUMMER SHOW

A SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION.

The Nelson Horticultural Society s summer show, held at the Druid ß Hall yesterday, proved quite a popular attraction,' the attendance being very satisfactory both in the afternoon and evening The arrangement of the show met with approval, many visitors expressing their aprpeciation of the general effect secured. Although tho weather has been so unfavourable for weeks past, and against the production of good roses, there were many blooms of high merit. •Ranzati School sent in a fine lot of blooms, and was the largest exhibitor. It is gratifying to know that, such an. interest is taken in school gardening, and the teacher (Miss Davies) is to.be con-o-ratulated on her "blooms. ,The novice classes for roses brought out keen competition, showing that many more citizens are becoming interested in the culture of roses. The big display of anterrhiriums was much admired, while 1 the table of irises, another feature of the show, attracted a great deal of attention. Visitors from other parts of the Dominion .expressed- amazement at the array of between 600. and 700 school children'si buttonholes, a feature they had not seen in shows in their own districts. On the stage was a large number of foliasre plants, kindly lent by the President (Mr.*. H. Mollcr), which made a fine background.
