The latest evidence indicates that the German harvest won't last till the spring. The population is now suffering severely, awaiting- the harvest, Thoxisands of poor in the large cities are sub-sisting.-on potatoes and sugar. There is the greatest scarcity oi soap and leather and of some necessaries, but it is believed" they will be able to hold out economically for many months resisting the blockade pressure, only a military defeat reducing them.
