SHORTAGE OF WATER
PROtBAIBiiE CAUSE OF THE 'TROUBLE.
The 'City Engineer has .discovered that the wire screen covering the mouth of the pipe leading from' the ''•weir has bei ;.' come so corroded as to praetical'ly close the -main. This, it is believed, for the shortage of water in 1 those parts of the city which are supplied from the 4 weir, and "also for the of, the pressure from the" dam- and the weir. A large gang of workmen' were taken to the waterworks, to-day; ; ;' To-day a large additional, part of the city was- absolutely without' y/ateiy viz. ,\ Waimea. Bead to the town boundary, Toi. Toi Valley . and branch streets, and \Vashington Valleyu No provision has been made for such an emergency, except in a few cases, and the resulting inconvenience may well 'be imagined.
