At a meeting of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College to-day, a letter was read from Bishop Brodie, regretting his inability to act as one of tho governors, Von; the ground of con-' scien.tious scruples! The Bishop said he was pledged to fight for the recognition of Catholic secondary schools in the same manner as State secondary schools were recognised. For him) to accept membership of the board would
involve grave inconsistency and/ endanger the assertion of Catholic rights iind principles. The letter was received with regret.
