Sir Douglas Haig reports: —We drove the Fifth Brandenburg Division out >1 the remaining positions in Delville Wood. Tie whole wood is now in our hands. We ■beat off two counter-attacks with heavy loss. We made further progress at Longueval. There were "heavy artillery duels lastEight. Small parties of Germans _ penetrated our trenches at two points at. Neuve Chappelle and were immediately driven out. Our artillery is shelling north-east of Souchez and. at several other points. (Longueval forms part of Delville Wood). RUSSIAN ACTIVITY AT AUBERIVE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association ) (Rec. Julv 29, 10.30 a.m.) " PARIS, July; 23. A communion e states that the Russians penetrated trenches at Auberive. using grenades, taking prisoners. Violent- artillery stopped German attacks at Thiaumont.
