SHARPSHOOTERS' CAR^WAL. A 'highly successful carnival was held at Motueka on Wednesday in aid of the Sharpshooters' Army. Following a pro-; cession from the Hlorticnltural Hall> '■ speeches were delivered by .Rev. W. French, Cr. H. IBuckeridge, and Mr H. Everett at the Recreation Ground,.where sports were also held. . _ . In theevening the Horticultural Hall , was packed, and the greatest excitement prevailed: in connection with the election, of a princess. There were many changes in the position of the four candidates, the fiiml result being:—Miss Goodwin (Riwaka) lj Miss Thomas (Upper Moutere) 2; Miss Turner (Motueka) 3 : Mass - Goodall (Lower Moutere) 4. The entry of the successful Princess was the signal for a- great ovation, which, was repeated as each of the other candidates stepped forward Riwaka raised £305 out of- a total of £725, which is in itself a record. Upper Moutere raised over £2OO, defeating the Motmekia candidate by 14 vote* "(oenny a vote) for second place. . The balance of gifts and produce was to be disposed of. by auction to-day, airl it is expected that the carnival will finally 'result in about £IOOO being raised. A special prize of 10s has been, given*--by a. local resident for a ladies' single rope pull. Entries are now called for, and the management wish to announce that Miss H. Inwood is prepared to meet and lady of her own weight . Entry fee Is, whichi will also go to the winner. Mr Vitetta, conductor of the Nelson Concert Orchestra, is arranging' for tho National Anthems of the Allies to le played. '
