GERMAN COUNTER-ATTACK REPULSED

The Germans, after a violent- bombardment, attacked our salient north-eastward of Butteswood last night, but failed under our machine gun fire. Our curtain fire stopped, with losses, a night- attack upon a 1200 metre front westward of Prosnes. A counterattack threw out the Germans from advanced trenches. Artillery- is active at 'Hill 304 and TFleury. ibur grenade attack progressed westward 1 of Thiaumont work. ARTILLERY ACTIVITY. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) ißec. July 28. 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, July 27. Sir Douglas Haig Teports that- artillery is active all night-long. Close fighting continues. We are pressing the Germans at various points, the Germans using many gas and tear shells.
