12TH REGIMENT BAND

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the 12th (Nelson) Regiment Band was held iu the Land-room on. Monday evening last, Bandmaster T. PI. Hughes presiding,. The election of officers resulted Chairman, Bandmaster T. H. Hughe? ; Secretary and Treasurer, Sergeant H. H. Wimsett; Committee, Bandmaster T H. Hughes. Sergeant- H. H. Wimsett, Corporal W. Lock, Bandsmen J. Weblev and B. Johansen. A letter was received from Secretary. Brook Fusiliers, asking- if the Ban»j woul;' assist prior to Picture entertainment 011 Friday evening It- was resolved to accede to the request, [ The Band were also approaehed by n member of the Entertainment Committee of the Silver BulJet Cannonade, asking it' the Band would play for six nights at the coming Paddy's Market, etc. It was unanimously decided to fall in with the reque:- .. The Secretary,, in presenting his report, stated : —This year has not been so eventful as the last due mainly to the band being unable to attend any contests which have all been postponed on account of the European crisis.. Owing to the Bandi losing =o many members through the war th-j Band has found it to have only one practise a, week fpr sometime /back, and devote the other night to try and build- up the ranks *by starting a juvenile band. During the year three members of the Band left to join the Expeditionary Force,_ namely. Bandsmen W." Lock, C-. Maxted, and Snowden, and the members one and all join ; n wrSning them a. pleasant voyage and, safe return. The Band attended the annual training camp held at . Tapawera,. and, althouiTh short in- numbers, were more than- \ able to fulfil the Band's obligation to the Regiment. ,It is interesting to note that since the outbreak of the war the Band; have turned Out over 50 times for patriotic purposes •alone and have only given five concerts for the hand's own- funds.
