"£25,000."
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —£25,000 is a big sum for Nelson to raise, and as this amount is to be obtained from the, public it will be well that all possible particulars be fully supplied and to-night's meeting .freely reported in the press for the information of country residents and others who will have no opportunity of being present. By what means is this very large sum to be raised? ' Over and above £25,000 what amount will be required for expenses? Who is going to run the , show? Is he or they to be.paid for his " or their services? If so, how much? Are raffles, gambling, etc., to be permitted? "The end justifies the means" as .long as the moneycanbe got, has been the motto "for some money raising efforts " in the past. The committee should state "its mind clearly upon this point. Is any provision to be .made -for the inevitable commercial slump- which' will follow in the carnival's wake? These questions, and others, require plain answers. The public have every right to know exactly what is proposed. I am etc., JR.S{This evening's meeting is, we understand, for the purpose of placing the scheme before the -public. Doubtless any questions asked will be answered by the committee.)
