CRICKET

NELSON V. MARLBOROUGH

I The abo\e match was commenced at Trafalgar Park on Saturday. The day was anything but an ideal one for cricket, a strong sea breeze blowing throughout the day and making matters very unpleasant for both batsman and bowler. W. Griffin, who was elected captain for Nelson, won the toss from W- Chisholm, the Marlborough skipper, and decided to bat. The innings opened with Haycock and Frost against the bowling of Allcott and McALpine. Both batsmen played carefully and 20 was hoisted before the first wicket fell, Frost being given out l.b.w. k> Hylton. The remainder of the innings was a procession. The only batsman to score double figures was Bradstock (1). The innings closed.for 63, which is by no means the true value of the team. Marlborough opened with Robson and Neale, Lane and Thomascn bowling. Robson played a good sound innings for SC, and 80 was up before Neale was bowled bv Duiiciii for 22. Allcott (14) 'and McAlpine (10) were the only other batsmen to score double figures. The innings closed for 129. Messrs Nevvson and Firth were the umpires. C Tho scores were : NELSON—Ist inns.
