The Defence Headquarters announced this morning that on New Year's Day the Elevenths were still over 300 men short. During the past week the South Island had not clone so well and the North was sending men into canio to reduce tin deficiency. A considerable spurt is also required to be made in recruiting this week to furnish the necessary number of men for the Twelfths. being mobilised on the IC-.-h inst.
