UPPER MOUTERE .SPORTS.

The* Upper Montere-Neudorf Athletic and Cycling Club held their annual sports "meeting in Mr J. Drumnnond's paddock on Ne\i; Yearls Day. There was a large attendance -of spectators, among' vlirai ,r 'were"' many Motueka, Takaka. and Nelson people."'The events were got off 10 time, and the meeting (the proceeds of which ar<i to be devoted to patriotic purposes) was in every way a success. 'Keen contests and exciting finishes wei-e the order of. the day in the running events., The mile race, run between H. C. Wilkes and G-. Sigglekow, and' won "by Wilkes xm the touch, was perhaps the best performance of the meeting.' - The "novel events attracted much "interest, and drew large entries. It lias not yet been .decided to whom will be awarded' a handsome silver cup, presented by Messrs ; Bisl-ey Bros, and •Co. on behalf of the Mdlduivi apple lands, for the most points in tlie running competitions. A. 'Sigglekow and' r H: C Wilkes a>re running very close on points, and a special meeting of the committee will decide the cup winner. The Wakefield Brass Band .played 'selections during the dav.
