Except for twenty-four hours' bombardment, commencing on the night of the 27th, to which Several of the forts did not reply, and the warships sustained no damage in return, the operations in ithe Dardanelles are chiefly confined to anine-sweeping. N (General Linan von Sandars was, head of the German Army Mission to Turkey, and was subsequently given command of the first army corps.) CONSTANTINOPLE "ABSOLUTELY IMPREGNABLE." " * LONDON, March 28. Field-Marshal Von der Goltz,- before leaving Constantinople, declared that the city was absolutely impregnable.

OPERATIONS BY RUSSIAN" FLEET. LONG-DISTANCE FIRING. (Rec. March 31, 9.35 a.m.) PETROGRAD, Mar. 30. The Russian bombardment is forcing the Turks to divide their fortress engineers. The ships are several miles out at sea, and waterplanes are directing the Russian fire. The ports, are mostly supplied -with six-inch guns, and- are too near the water to be very effective. The Germans are constructing new batteries on higher ground. The Russians are specially shelling two forts on the Asiatic shore, and one on the European, which has large guns. (Rec. March 31, 9.35 a.m.) PARIS, March 30. The Russians are bombarding the Bosphorus forts from a distance of eleven miles.
GERMAN TROOPS WISH TO PASS THROUGH ROUMANIA
PERMISSION REFUSED. LONDON, March 30. Router states that Germany recently put strong pressure upon Rou mania to permit a German army corps to pass through en routp to Turkey. Roumania refused.
