GERMAN OFFENSIVE ON THE NIEMEN EVERYWHERE STOPPED. PETROGRAD, March 30. A communique states that the German counter-otfensive west of the Nie men has everywhere been stopped. The Germans attached enormous importance to the Niemen offensive. The 31fifc division, with three reserve regiments and much cavalry, was ordered to push to Lodize at all costs. The Germans, making prodigious efforts, attempted to envelope the Russian right north of Lodzie by crossing the frozen Lake Doussia. A' large number penetrated the Russian rear, but they were entirely annihilated. AUSTRIAN ATTACKS REPULSED. (Bee. March 31, 8.55 a.m.) PETRDGRAD, March 30. Persistent Austrian attacks 'between Gorlitze and Bartfield were repulsed. The Russians progressed in the Baligrod district, capturing prisoners and guns. GERMAN CLAIMS. (Ree. March 31, 8.55 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, March 30. A German official message claims that 1000 Russians were captured at Tauroggen; 2000 killed at- Krasnopol .: and in the AmValk district 3000 captured. The High Commissioner reports:— London, March 30, 4 a.m. Petrograd reports on the front west of the Niemen tho German counter offensive has everywhere been stopped. A battalion of the 21st German Army Corps which was crossing the ice on Lake Doussia on Sunday in order to get to the rear of the Russians was annihilated with the bayonet. The enemy's siege 'batteries (before Osowiec have almost ceased fire. Fighting continues between Szwka and Orzec. In an extremely desperate battle for the village of Wach the Russians captured nine machine guns.-
