! WATERS-POUTS IN THE BAY. It was reported from the Lighthouse tbis morning that a waterspout had been nh.-erved in the Hay. In a short time the news spread, and soon many persons wt i e gazing out to sea at a column reaching i're'm the sea to the clouds. The. contrail was about midway between Separation Point and the mainland, and was travelling fairly fast in a north, north-westerly direction. A second column could he discerned, but it was not so clearly defined. The lighthousekeeper states that it was the largest spout he has ever seen. Though usually couthied to the sea, waterspouts occasionally make their way to land. So-ve-nal years ago one burnt at the top of Toi Toi Valley .and an immense volume of water swept down St. Vincent-street an<r through private property. Another instance is recalled of a waterspout bursting over the Fifeshire Rock. A great storm was raging at the time, and although the burst' occurred about the middle of the da v. the weather conditions were so bad that but few people were out of doors to witness it. j
