ROAD BOARD

Accounts were passed for payment I amounting to £63 Ss 3d. ' A memorandum was received from-the Resident Engineer, Public Works Department, re grant of £75 that had been issued, to the Board for a bridge over Collins river to Mr T. Raynor's, and] forwarding plans and specification of the j work. % ~-.'-• i A memo, was received from the Resident Engineer re Dencker's Creek track, with plan and schedule of work." Inspector's report of work completed during the month wasr as follows : —The contract for road formation up. Elizabeth Greek "has: be£n'dbnipleted. The -eight-] chains of .gravelling on the Cable road' is completed; also the gravelling from-j the main road down to Close's ford. I have told the dayman to go on and cle>n out the watertables and repair the road [at Wangamoa, and on the other road. . .ork there is. about eight chains off I the road opposite Mrs Mitchell's property. I must recommend the board to have this gravelled. There is about six chains of road in the Dower Wangamoa requires gravelling from Dencker's gate along the new formation. Mr Dodson wants the- hoard's permission to be allowed to put in a post on the roadside to anchor a footbridge which he is erect over the river. I have waited on the -Chief Surveyor .re the' land between the river and road at Lower Wangamoa marked "A., 8., D.," and he- informed me that the land- .is the board's property. I must kindly ask the board for extra .pay if I am to supervise Government grants in tho Wangamoa district, as I consider it is outside of my duties. Resolutions were then passed :-—- (1) "That gravelling on.the Bla<:k road opposite Mitchell's be tendered for, te-iir dcrs to be opened by the chairman and Mr A. Dodson at the Overseer's house." (2) "That the chairman wait oh the Resident Engineer re gravelling a portion of the new formation at. Wanga- . moa." , (3) "That the board declines to allow a fence to be erected between the rivei*- and road in Lower Wangamoa on account of getting to the river bed for >■ ravel when required." • (4) '-'That the.Overseer be allowed o per cent, on all Government grants in the Wanj-amoa from the Saddle down to 2-i- per cent, on grants, expended on the j Kelson side of the Wangamoa Saddle tor supervising, the. work." ' (5) "That the Overseer see Mr 1. -U-aj-nor re the bridge over the Collins river and arrange with him for the work it he is willing to undertake the work. (6) "That the Overseer get a tew chains of gravelling done on the leal road opposite Mr J. Smith (a member of the Education Board, and member of the local School Committee) was voted to the chair. The secretary of the outgoing Committee read the report and balancesheet, which was adopted.
