MASKED MEN INTRUDE ON A BIRTH. DAY PARTY

SYDNEY, May 5
This morning's hold-up at Darlinghurst was the most sensational for years. It occurred* at one o'clock. Abu'ut 20 persons were in the house celebrating the birthday of one of the family. Suddenly a tall masked man entered, and presented a. revolver, and demanded, "Hands up !" The party was staggered. The masked man then whistled, and three others appeared. The owner of the house entered a protest, but was silenced by cursing men who pushed revolvers in his face.
The party stood in a semi-circle, and the intruders calmlv went through their pockets. They stole £6OO in money and jewellery. One of the guests attempted to escape by the back door, but a robber fired his revolver, bringing him to a. standstill.
After clearing out the party the men. tacked through the door, still threatening their victims with their revolvers, boarded motor cars, and decamped. " Later detectives arrested; David 1 Keenahan=, aged 25, who was charged with assaulting' arid robbing- one of the o-uests. He was remanded on bail in the sum of £I6OO.
