PROHIBITION IN NEW ORLEANS
A CARDINAL'S PRONOUNCEMENT.

(Received Mar. 9, 8.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, March 8. Cardinal Gibbons is greatly criticised for his pi'onouncement in New Orleans that it is impossible to enforce prohibition in any Christian country. He added that prohibition was calculated to make hypocrites and . lead to the manufacture of illicit whisky, replacing good material with bad, and simultaneously robbing the Government- of legitimate I taxation.
