Arthur Richai'ds, a young man,.pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to two charges of stealing £1 7s 5d the property of the Labour Department, and lis the property of the Government. Mr Macassay, for the Labour Department, stated that the total amount of moneys received by the defendant and unaccount ed for from 13th September 1913, to 26tb January 1914, was £92 9s 6d, but full restitution had since been made. Accused had been in the Labour Department for three years, and hitherto had borne a good, character. The department did not press for a severe sentence. On the first charge the accused was fined £5 or 21 days' imprisonment, and on the second he was convicted, and ordered to appear for sentence when called upon.
