GALE IN THE SOUTH
MUCH DAMAGE DONE. (Chtid Prxss Association. \ TIMARU, Feb. 13. A -.north-west pale set in about 9 a.m. and. blew" .very hard for two o~ three hours. Great damage was done in the harvest fields. Much minor- damage wa? done, sheds being unroofed, etc. At Fairlie two chimneys fell through roof*. The railway shelter was ehifted and capsized at Albury. At Pleasant Point thV orchards have been heavily stripped of fruit. No. material damage is reported at Timarn. Val Scott, a youth, was pinned down by a branch which had to be cut to release him, and he was taken to the hospital with a- broken thigh. CENTRAL OTAGO FRUIT CROPS . -. -' SUFFER. r * DUNEDIN, Fel». 13 - The v » weather changed somewhat eaddenly this morning, and a heavy gale set in, -accompanied by rain. This raged for about two hours, but- the weather afterwards cleared. The gale extended to Central Otago, and at Clyde it did considerable damage : to the fruit crops, particularly to aDples and:pears,, which have fallen heavily. A number of trees have been practically destroyed. MUCH DAMAGE AT INVERCARGrLL. INVERCARGILL, Feb. 13. A gale blew all day on Wednesday, and developed into a regular blizzard today /"the violent wind being accompanied by occasional downpours of rain and hail. A considerable amount of damage was done. The stays of the large wooden condenser at the tramway power house were detached, and it was feared that the structure would be wrecked. A laree wool drying., stort>, aear Wallacetown, four stories high, and just nearin'g completion, was demolished-. Minor damage such as broken windows and partially unroofed' premises was not uncommon in the town- Tne gale moderated in the evening, but the weather is stijl unpleasant-
