A remarkable instrument has recently been devised for. systematically examining and"recording the most detailed variations'of the heart's action. By an ingenious combination of delicate electrical apparatus this instrument (technically known as the electro-cardiograph) gives an. accurate record of each beat of the heart, as well as the "pulses" which represent it in different parts of the body ; also of the tiny electrical currents which are generated through the action of the heart itself, and which can only be measured by the most sensitive meters. It is estiirated that this instrument will- be of great value to meddcal men, although it is : so complicated and so expensive that it will find its way into the cohsul-ing-rccms cf one or two | specialists only. But so that it shall be.-accessible 'to the profession at large a' well-known firm of instrument-makers has ' installed 'an up-to-date electro"'cardiogranh in its laboratories for the use of doctors who wish to take advantage cf an iTportant advance in methods of investigating heart disease.
