AUCKLAND EXHIBITION

SECRETARY VISITS NELSON*.

Mr. W. R. Holmes, secretary of the Auckland Exhibition, arrived in Nelson this morning to confer with' tho Cham ncr of Commerce ami citizens generally regarding the establishment of a Nelson district court. Mr. Holmes has already visited other districts, and it has'been arranged alrcad.v that North Auckland, South° Auckland. Taranaki, /Wangamu, Manawatu. Timaru. Ashburton, Oamaru, will be represented in tho manner indicated, and it is expected that the other districts will follow when visited. By combining, each district is able to make a> thoroughly representative display, una the cost "individually dees not amount to v-rv much. Thousands of visitors from all parts of New Zealand and from the Australian Staies will be present, besides | a birga number from countries further afielcf and it was felt by the districts mentioned, above that the Exhibition, offered a splendid opportunity for advertisement. And it is hoped that Nelson will not be behind hand in the matter. There are possibilities for much development, and. it would be a. terrible tiling if the thousands of people who will visit the Exhibition will know nothing of this district and of the \ndvantages it otters both from a. residential and agricultural point of view. It is to be hon?d that tho various local bodies will realise the importance of the matter. Standing by itself, the opportunity would provide an excellent advertisement, but now that most districts will bo represented. Nelson simply cannot afford to stand out. Mr. Holme?, who, by the way, is a .former Nelsonian, having been Government auditor here some 20 years ago, was secretary of the previous exhibition held in Auckland some 14 years ago, and therefore lias had. considerable experience in the work. The success of tho Exhibition is already assured, as between 20.C00 and 40.00Q f?et of space has been taken up in a very short time. The Government has promised to make a- first-class show, in which will be represented tnirticiilarlv the Tourist, Agricultural. 'Marine. Post and Telegraph. Railways, and Mining Departments. It is interesting to note that the area of the Exhibition is no less than 35 acres, the pick of the Domain overlooking thb harbour, It .'is expsctcd tliat this will bo tho lareost exhibition held in No'w Zealand. Prices of £IOO, ££o and £2r> .are offered for tho three best' Provincial Courts. (
