The experiment with the fan in the North Lyell mine was unsuccesful. It has been discovered .that' the fire is still smouldering, and it is considered that the only remedy will be the re-sealing and 'flooding of "the mine. The water is now forty feet above the 1 thousandfeet level. ■■••>
