Mr Carmichael announced that no action by the Gas Company in dismissing men, or statements calculated to intrude in the affairs of the Gasmen's Union, 'would be allowed to affect the Bill now before Parliament. DEALING WITH WIFE-DESERTERS. (Peceived 9.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. In the Asseirblv s?r. Holman Intro duced a Bill providing for wider and more stringent inter-State action dealing with-wife-deserters. Under one proviso offenders under arrest are compelled to work for their .owm maintenance, the balance of their pay going to satisfy oiders- against them. Cruelly treated or neglected wives are allowed to live apart from their husbands, who are compel ted to maintain then: and their children.

The new Referenda, Bill provides that the electors shall vote separately on- each question and not shape their own question as at last election. An important addition seeks Federal jurisdiction oyer unemployment.
