THE MAITAI ROAD
THE POLE FORD INCIDENT
NO OBJECTION TO LEGAL GATE
After we went to press yesterday further discussion resulted on the letters from Mr. F. G. Gibbs (appearing in yesterday's issue) in connection with the Pole Ford incident. With regard to Mr. Gibbs letters asking the Council to prevent the re-erec-tion of a fence at Pole Ford, Cr. Everett said that if the fence was not an obstruction to traffic no magistrate would order its reiroval. The fence was on Council property. In answer to Cr. (Everett the Engineer said that the fence was an advantage to the road, and did not interfere wartraffic. In regaTd to the removal of the obstruction, Cr. Everett moved that Gibbs be infonred that the Council would preserve the public right to the road, and that Mrs Richardson be informed that the Council would offer no objection if she applied for permission to erect a legal gate. Cr. Hoult seconded the motion, which was carried, Cr. Corder objecting to the latter portion of the resolution.
(In yesterday's issue it was inadvertently 'stated that the Council had nc objection to the erection of a legal fence It should have been a legal gate.)
