The Australian Gaslight Co. has notified that unless the Assembly accepts the Council's amcndriients to the 'Gaa Bill ' employees will be discharged in a few days. If the amendments are adopted, the 200 men recently discharged will be re-employed.
TOTALISATOR BILL. (Rec. Inov. 8, 9.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This i>ay. In the Assembly Mr Levien introduced a Totalisator Bill. It provides for the granting of licenses for totahsators to any recognised racing club for a period of 12 months, with a fee for everv dav for which such a license is issued. Clubs retain ten per cent of the moneys paid into the machine, and within a fortnight they must pay half the commission deducted to the Colonial Treasurer, the remaining half being expended in prizes and upkeep of couree. Proprietary clubs using tneir own course need spend only a quarter in prizes and upkeep. All moneys after the commission is deducted shall be paid in dividends. A cUuse- provides that racing clubs must use all means to P«vent bookmakers plying their calling on their courses. The selling to or purchasingfor a minor of a totalisator ticket is punishable by fine or imprisonment. (Rec. 10.15 a.m.) The Totalisator Bill prohibits anyone from receiving from another money to invest, and also anyone acting as a totalisator acrent on commission.^ INCOME TAX BILL. SYDNEY, This Day. Mr Cann introduced an amending Income Tax Bill (providing for the collection of the tax from companies instead of individual shareholders) and a Stamp Duties Bill. He expects the latter to produce £200,000 in revenue.
